Twenty-six stalls selling firecrackers at the the public market of Kananga, Leyte were gutted by fire in the afternoon of December 31.
Kananga Mayor Elmer Codilla informed the Philippine Information Agency that the stalls gutted by fire were makeshift stalls located away from the public market in order to ensure safety of the consumers and the businessmen in the public market.
There was no damage to permanent infrastructure because the makeshift stalls were actually occupying the sidewalks of the street, Codilla added.
